And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,
Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neigbour as thyself.
The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?
Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.
And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?
But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore?
And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, that ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my nameapos;s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.
But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.
I love verse 26, though I think I donapos;t think enough about how true it is that nothing is impossible for God; its hard for me to imagine no limits, though I know that all things are indeed possible for God; he can do all things, even things we canapos;t even begin to imagine. And verse 17, even Jesus, who was completely without sin, and Godapos;s only Son, said that only God is good. He was very meek and humble. And the telling of the young man who wouldnapos;t give up his riches; I think that so many people tend to hang onto their things, their wealth, and think that that is enough to get them through; I know I certainly can let the things of the world take on more importance than they merit, and let them come between me and the Lord. Iapos;m glad heapos;s forgiving, merciful, and patient - but I know only so far; he does get angered when we keep putting other, especially worldly, things first. Lord, help me to keep You first, and my attention on You where it belongs, and not on the things of the world, as You deserve; also, I know You can and do get peopleapos;s attention, Lord, when they are not giving it to You, and that is a very, very fearful thing. Help me to focus on You, Lord, and keep You, as You should be, my first priority. Also, a verse in Mark about this same young man, I really, really like:
Mark 10:21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
I love that it says, Jesus beholding him loved him. He loves us all, faults, sins and all. Thank You, Jesus. Also, I donapos;t believe that this is saying that wealth in and of itself is wrong; just that if it is what you are putting your faith and trust in, rather than the true thing we should be leaning on and trusting: Jesus Christ; God.
